Tonight's episode of AEW Dynamite (January 8, 2025) emanates from the F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville, Tennessee and follows up on last week's Fight for the Fallen special while gearing up for next week's Maximum Carnage edition.'
Set for this episode will be a Casino Gauntlet to determine who gets the next shot at the AEW World Championship (with the only participants confirmed so far to be "Switchblade" Jay White and Jeff Jarrett), The Hurt Syndicate's Bobby Lashley up against Mark Briscoe, Will Ospreay against Buddy Matthews of The House of Black, the return of Kenny Omega following his victory over Gabe Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty this past weekend in the Tokyo Dome (possibly to continue to tell the story of his pursuit of Continental Classic winner Kazuchika Okada), appearances by Jeff Jarrett and Maxwell Jacob Friedman, a thre-way for the No. 1 spot in the Women's Casino Gauntlet for Maximum Carnage which will determine who faces Mariah May for the AEW Women's World Championship at AEW Grand Slam: Australia on February 15th, and who knows what else?
This episode is simulcast on TBS as well as MAX and begins at 8 p.m. ET, and this post will be updated frequently to reflect live coverage of everything that happens on the show, from match results and any other highlights and noteworthy things that transpire.
Here are your results of AEW Dynamite for January 8, 2025:
- Will Ospreay defeated Buddy Matthews by pinfall after a Hidden Blade. Ospreay puts over Matthews after the match.
- Private Party had a promo on the stage about making history by main-eventing the Collision simulcast. The Hurt Syndicate interrupted, toasting Zay and Quen with MVP talking about how his VIP Lounge was basically what their gimmick is. Bobby Lashley then toasted the idea of The Hurt Syndicate beating them and winning the tag team titles from them.
- Bobby Lashley defeated Mark Briscoe by submission with the Hurt Lock. Private Party saved Briscoe from a post-match beating.
- Powerhouse Hobbs won the Men's Casino Gauntlet Match to earn a shot at the AEW World Championship next week at Maximum Carnage. In order of their entrances were "Switchblade" Jay White, "Hangman" Adam Page, Wheeler Yuta, Ricochet, Adam Cole, Daniel Garcia, Powerhouse Hobbs, Roderick Strong, Lance Archer, Kyle O'Reilly, and Jeff Jarrett.
- Jeff Jarrett's promo interview with Ian Riccaboni was interrupted by MJF, who spoke about how Jarrett's final contract is just for 1 year and he doesn't have it in him to win a match at all, let alone a world title, making fun of Jarrett's age and so on. Jarrett called MJF a one hit wonder and said he's not buying what MJF is selling.
- The Rated-R Superstar Cope cut a promo about how he always gets back up any time he gets knocked down. Death Riders came out to attack him, and when Moxley prepped a plastic bag and was ready to choke him out, Powerhouse Hobbs made the save with FTR as Death Riders calmly retreated.
- Three-Way to Determine the #1 Spot in the Women's Casino Gauntlet for AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage: Kris Statlander defeated Toni Storm and Willow Nightingale by pinfall on Storm.
- Kenny Omega cut a promo about his return to the ring. He was interrupted by Don Callis and his family, who attacked him until Will Ospreay came out with a steel chair to run them off. The show ended with the two of them staring each other down tensely.
