At this stage, we're sure most if not all of you will be well aware of what went down between CM Punk and members of The Elite following the All Out media scrum, but just in case, here's a quick recap.
Punk, having just won the AEW title from Jon Moxley, went on quite the rant during the scrum, and was confronted by Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks afterwards. A fight broke out, and all parties were immediately suspended.
The Bucks and Omega have been back for a while, but Punk has only just recovered from a torn triceps he suffered during his title match. He is believed to be in talks with Tony Khan about a potential return, but if recent rumors are to believed, not many in the locker room want to see him back.
However, legendary announcer Jim Ross is not one of them.
During the most recent episode of his podcast, Ross said he's "optimistic" that the situation will be resolved, and that he believes AEW "needs CM Punk."
"Of course, the whole question is gonna center around [will] CM Punk ever be back. I’m one of those guys that believe he will be back. We’ll see. I think AEW needs CM Punk because of his star power, and he brings… with controversy creates cash, and he’s certainly controversial. I’m a big fan of Phil’s. We’ll see how it works out. I’m optimistic and positive."
Ross is not wrong about Punk's value to the company, and Khan would be crazy not to at least attempt to capitalize on a feud with the Elite down the road.
