Three matches took place tonight on AEW Dynamite to further along this year's 2025 Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
In the women's division, Boston's own and TBS Champion (among other titles she currently holds) Mercedes Mone defeated the ROH Women's World Champion Athena in semifinals action, meaning she will go on to the finals taking place at AEW Double or Nothing to face the winners of Jamie Hayter vs. Kris Statlander.
After the match, Mone had a moment with "Timeless" Toni Storm, who gave her a standing ovation for what was a fantastic opening contest.
Over on the men's division side for the quarterfinals, "Hangman" Adam Page was set to face the wild card of this year's tournament, which ultimately ended up being "The Walking Weapon" Josh Alexander, most notably a former TNA world champion and now officially part of the All Elite Wrestling roster.
It was a fairly even match, ending with Page managing to score the pinfall to advance.
After the match, however, Page was beaten down by Kyle Fletcher with a little help from Alexander, who hit him from behind after speaking to Don Callis. It is still unknown at this time if that means Alexander has joined The Don Callis Family, as he did walk off after doing that, rather than to pose with Callis and Fletcher.
In semifinals action in the men's division, Will Ospreay and Konosuke Takeshita battled it out to see who would top out one side of the bracket and also go on to the finals for AEW Double or Nothing. It was an amazing hard-fought match, completely with more near-falls to keep track of that could have easily ended it. Eventually, Ospreay was able to secure the pinfall after a Stormbreaker, meaning he's one step closer to what he had said at the start of all this about winning the tournament and going on to win the AEW World Championship at AEW All In: Texas.
Page will face Kyle Fletcher in the semifinals to decide who goes up against Ospreay on May 25, 2025 at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Previous winners of the Owen Hart Cup were the original duo of Adam Cole and Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. in 2022, Ricky Starks and Willow Nightingale in 2023, and last year's winners, Bryan Danielson and Mariah May, who both went on to win their respective world titles at All In in 2024.
What did you think of Josh Alexander joining the All Elite Wrestling roster and being the wild card? Should he have beaten Page, or should Athena have won instead of Mercedes Mone? What about Ospreay and Takeshita? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
