Derek Brunson and Edmen Shahbazyn are finally set to clash at the UFC Fight Night show on August 1. The middleweights were originally supposed to fight back at UFC 248 in March, but the bout was moved to April; however, the coronavirus pandemic ultimately cancelled the fight.
Brunson is currently in the midst of a two-fight winning streak, beating Elias Theodorou (via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 151) and Ian Heinisch (via unanimous decision at UFC 241). The middleweight’s record in his last five fights are a mixed bag as Brunson’s only other victory comes over Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night 119. Brunson’s professional record currently stands at 20 wins and 7 losses.
Shahbazyan enters the bout on a massive 11-fight winning streak, with his victories in the UFC coming over Darren Stewart (via split decision at The Ultimate Fighter: Heavy Hitters Finale), Charles Byrd (via TKO at UFC 235), Jack Marshman (via submission at UFC 239), and Brad Tavares (via KO at UFC 244). His professional record currently stands at 11 wins and 0 losses.
