Can Alexander Volkanovski finish off Max Holloway at UFC 251?
The newly crowned UFC Featherweight Champion managed to pull off a feat that Frankie Edgar, Brian Ortega, José Aldo, and Anthony Pettis couldn’t do, and that is beat the 28-year-old for the 145-pound title.
However, Volkanovski won the bout via unanimous decision and though no one is questioning whether the 31-year-old truly deserves the championship as it was clear that the featherweight out scored Holloway at UFC 245, Volkanoski is looking to cement his legacy by handing Holloway his first ever knockout loss inside the octagon:
“I’ve already beat him. I know I can do that,” Volkanovski told MMA Junkie. “Now I want to finish him. A lot of people think he can’t be finished. I truly do believe I can.”
In the span of Holloway’s ten-year career, the former UFC Featherweight Champion has yet to suffer a loss via knockout. This sounds like a tall task that Volkanovski is looking accomplish this Saturday; however, the Australian fighter is confident in his abilities:
“I might sound real confident, but that’s because I am. I am very confident, and I believe in my abilities, and I’m going to show the world I”m the best featherweight in the world, and that’s it.”
Volkanovski has respect for Holloway’s accomplishments in the sport; however, he promises to finish him off at UFC 251:
“I’m going for the finish, and I think it is going to be a finish,” Volkanovski said. “I have a lot of respect for him as a fighter, who he is. He’s a durable fighter, as well, got a great chin, so me putting him away is really sending a statement, and that really, really cements me into where I want to be, so that’s what I plan on doing.”
