At UFC 239, Jorge Masvidal shocked the mma community by not only putting an end to Ben Askren’s undefeated streak, but by knocking him out with a flying knee within five seconds of the contest.
Despite the stunning loss, the former ONE Welterweight Champion is bouncing back quickly by fighting Demian Maia next weekend at UFC Singapore; however, while the UFC star would surely like to forget the shocking loss he took back at 239, he still wants another fight against the man who broke his undefeated streak (transcript courtesy of
MMA Fighting):
“What I said explicitly was I wanted to come back to see if I was the best in the world,” Askren told MMA Fighting
. “In that five seconds, we didn’t find that out. We found out Jorge has a fantastic knee and that I’m not invincible, but we didn’t find much else out.
“I think I can bounce back from that pretty quickly and hope that it happens.
“That would be really nice,” Askren said about a rematch against Masvidal.
“Again, we’ll see where the division goes and where I’ll be, but I hope so.”
Masvidal – who’s set to fight Nate Diaz next month at UFC 244 – heard about Askren’s comments and is actually willing to fight the welterweight champion again, should he get more wins to prove himself:
UFC Fight Night Singapore takes place on Saturday, October 26 from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore with Demian Maia and Ben Askren headlining.
