The bantamweight bout between Bethe Correia and Irene Aldana will no longer take place at Saturday’s pay-per-view show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, sources confirmed with MMA Fighting. The UFC officially announced Tuesday that Correia was “forced to withdraw” from the fight.
The bantamweight fighters were originally scheduled to clash earlier this year, but an eye surgery forced her to back out of the fight. The UFC decided to re-book the match for UFC 227, but she was ultimately ruled unfit to compete because of an ongoing eye issue, sources said.
The UFC said there will not be a replacement fight made, and the card will proceed with 12 bouts.
