We could have a new Light Heavyweight Challenger very soon.
UFC has officially announced the main event of their UFC Fight Night card in Perth, Australia on Sept. 27 as Dominick Reyes will go five rounds against Carlos Ulberg. This fight was originally supposed to happen back in 2023, but Ulberg had to pull out due to injury.
Reyes has been on a hot streak in the last couple of years. There was some concern for the Light Heavyweight fighter as the 35-year-old was on a massive four fight skid following his loss to Jon Jones at UFC 247. Many genuinely felt that Reyes was robbed at UFC 247 as in the eyes of fans, he beat the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion soundly.
Reyes took a year off to readjust his training and game plan as The Light Heavyweight contender was in serious jeopardy of losing his spot on the roster until he got an impressive win over Dustin Jacoby.
Reyes continued to dominate in his next two fights against Anthony Smith and Nikita Krylov. The California native is reminding fans of the world champion that many saw him as before he dropped his first loss to Jon Jones. Currently, Reyes is ranked at number eight in the light heavyweight division. His professional record currently stands at 15 wins and 4 losses.
Carlos Ulberg hasn’t lost a fight in four years. The light heavyweight is on a massive tear throughout the division as he’s currently on a eight fight winning streak. Ulberg impressively destroyed Tafon Nchukwi, Nicolae Negumereanu, Ihor Potieria, and Alonzo Menifield via TKO. However, his biggest win came against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jan Błachowicz at UFC London in March. Carlos is currently ranked at number five in the light heavyweight division. His professional record currently stands at 12 wins and 1 loss.
At the moment, this is the only confirmed bout for the upcoming UFC Fight Night. This match-up will likely determine the next challenger for the 205-pound division. Currently, Magomed Ankalaev is the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. He’ll be defending his belt in October against Alex Pereira in a UFC 313 rematch.
The full card for UFC Perth has yet to be announced. As expected, more fights will be announced in the coming weeks.
