Georges St-Pierre will go down as one of the greatest fighters to step in the octagon.
Throughout his 10-year stint in mixed martial arts, the Canada native has continuously had incredible bouts against fighters such as B.J. Penn (UFC 58), Matt Hughes (UFC 65), Josh Koscheck (UFC 124), and Michael Bisping (UFC 217).
St-Pierre has a impressive record of 26 wins and 2 losses, but the last time that the 38-year-old lost within the octagon was against a very surprising opponent, Matt Serra. Going in, the New York native was coming off a simple split decision win over Chris Lytle. Prior to that welterweight bout, Serra’s record within the promotion was only 4 - 4.
St-Pierre was riding a six-fight winning streak, with only one loss on his record at that time. Many had pegged the then UFC Welterweight Champion as the favorite going in; however, Serra astonished the mixed martial arts world by handing St-Pierre his second loss (and final) of career.
St-Pierre would ultimately avenge his loss at UFC 83 with a TKO win over Serra and regain the UFC Welterweight title; however, Serra’s win over the former 170-pound champion proves that anything can happen in the world of MMA. Check out St-Pierre getting his redemption over Matt Serra below:
