Going into her strawweight title fight against Rose Namajunas last year, many had pegged “Thug Rose” as the favorite of the championship bout. Namajunas shocked the world at UFC 217 when she defeated Joanna Jędrzejczyk, who entered the contest on a strong 14-fight winning streak, besting names such as Carla Esparza, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Jéssica Andrade.
When the Wisconsin native pulled out the victory over Jędrzejczyk again at UFC 223, then there were no more doubts about Namajunas' ability inside of the octagon; however, Andrade came into the fight with more experience as the Brazilian has been in the business professionally since 2011.
Andrade didn’t really find her groove until she lost to Joanna Jędrzejczyk at UFC 211, with the strawweight adjusting her training and game plan a bit, which resulted in her scoring strong wins over Cláudia Gadelha (via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 117), Tecia Torres (via unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 28), and Karolina Kowalkiewicz (via TKO at UFC 228).
