It’s official, former WSOF Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje will take on Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 on Saturday, April 18.
Currently ranked number four in the lightweight division, the 31-year-old may not have the undefeated streak going for him like reigning Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov; however, Gaethje has showcased numerous times inside the octagon that his skills are top notch.
In total, the Arizona native has won 21 bouts, with nineteen of those fights ending via TKO. Gaethje entered the promotion back at The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption Finale in 2017 and the lightweight had a thrilling contest against Michael Johnson that earned him Performance and Fight of the Night.
Following his knockout, Gathje would suffer two consecutive losses against Eddie Alvarez (UFC 218) and Dustin Poirier (UFC on FOX 29); however, the lightweight would bounce back with three knockout wins over James Vick (UFC Fight Night 135), Edson Barboza (UFC on ESPN 2), and Donald Cerrone (UFC Fight Night 158).
Next week will be Gathje’s first crack at UFC gold, and his fight against Tony Ferguson will surely be an exciting contest. Before watching the main event of UFC 249, revisit Gaethje’s debut fight against Michael Johnson below:
