Relive the night that Tyron Woodley won the Welterweight Championship.
Even though he suffered a one-sided loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 235, Tyron Woodley had a title reign that saw him beat three men who were on the cusp of becoming stars before being taken down by the 38-year-old himself.
However, like every other fighter, Woodley had to work hard to get his first opportunity at the 170-pound belt; The former welterweight champ defeated Dong Hyun Kim (via TKO at UFC Fight Night 48) and Kelvin Gastelum (via split decision at UFC 183) before meeting Lawler at the UFC 201 pay-per-view. His professional record was 15 wins and 3 losses at this point.
Since beating Johny Hendricks to capture the belt at UFC 181, Lawler successfully pulled out victories over top tier fighters Rory MacDonald (via TKO at UFC 189) and Carlos Condit (via split decision at UFC 195) before stepping into the octagon against Woodley.
Despite having more experience on his side, Woodley made a name for himself by getting a TKO win over Lawler in the first round. Before the former UFC Welterweight Champion makes his return to the octagon this Saturday against Gilbert Burns, check out his dominant win over Robbie Lawler below:
