Interestingly, former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman had three potential opponents lined up; however, like UFC 249 and UFC 250, every upcoming show would end up being cancelled, and so was Weidman’s scheduled fight against Jack Hermansson at UFC Fight Night Oklahoma City.
However, prior to Dana White being forced to shut down any upcoming events, the 35-year-old claims that he accepted two other opponents for a replacement, Edmen Shahbazyan and Yoel Romero:
Most notably, Romero is coming off a UFC Middleweight title loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 248. Prior to the unanimous decision defeat, the 42-year-old dropped two consecutive bouts to Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa.
Shahbazyan would’ve been another challenging fight for Weidman as the middleweight is currently undefeated thus far. Shahbazyan’s last victory was against Brad Tavares at UFC 244 back in November 2019.
Dana White has previously stated that all the cancelled fights will be rescheduled at some point and with the UFC President promising a “Fight Island”, there’s a good chance that Weidman will be competing inside the octagon by the end of 2020. Weidman has only won a single fight out his last five, beating Kelvin Gastelum at UFC on Fox 25 via submission.
