I don’t think Colby Covington and Paddy Pimblett are friends.
Paddy Pimblett got the biggest win of his career at UFC 314. The lightweight dominated Michael Chandler and is quickly inching up in the 155-pound division, but there’s someone who smells blood in the water: Colby Covington. The former Interim Welterweight Champion didn’t waste any time in trying to goat Paddy Pimblett into fighting him next as he started an argument against the 30-year-old.
“You’re fighting scrubs,” Covington said. “Guys who are 2-6. You’re a bum. You beat guys who are 2-6, remember that. Remember that, you’re a scrub. ... You’re a fraud.”
The irony is that Covington is currently on a two-fight skid, so him claiming that Pimblett is fighting scrubs makes his WWE heel gimmick stand out even further. As you can see, the confrontation between the two didn’t go much further and it’s doubtful that these two will step into the octagon. Covington is a welterweight. Paddy is a lightweight. Unless the former cuts 20 pounds (or in vice versa) then it’s highly unlikely that these two will scrap any time soon.
But there war of words didn’t end there.
Paddy called him “irrelevant in an ESPN interview. Covington fired back by calling nearly every name under the sun on his YouTube channel.
“Paddy wanted to say some shit when I was walking by, so I had to confront him,” Covington said. “I had to let him know he’s a little b*tch boy. The combined losing streak of his last three opponents, look it up, guys, it’s 13 losses in a row. He wants to act like he’s relevant and he’s a star, he’s a f*cking nobody, bro. You’re a nobody. You’ve never headlined an event. You’ve never done anything worthy. You’ve never been a top contender. You’re a f*cking scrub.
“The only reason people f*cking care about you is because you’re an Ellen Degeneres-looking f*cking scrub and, to be honest, it’s because you’ve got a bowl cut and an English accent, that’s the only reason people want to look at you.”
We’ll see how long this battle will last. Covington doesn’t have an opponent yet, so the 37-year-old has plenty of time to go back and forth with Paddy if he wants to. Then again, Paddy is smart enough to understand what Covington is doing so he may not engage with him anymore.
