Tyron Woodley retained his belt against Darren Till at UFC 228 and now it appears that his next challenger is the man who seems to love controversy, Colby Covington. Speaking with
BJPenn.com, Covington argued why it makes sense for him to challenge Woodley for the Welterweight title and the reason UFC needs to get behind this fight.
“I think there’s more than enough material to promote,” Covington said
. “They can do the red side versus blue side promotion aspect. There’s so many different angles to run with it. Two former American Top Team teammates. Two guys that are managed by Dan Lambert. There’s just so many ways to go with it. There’s really not much I need to say.
“It’s been built. The hooks are in. The world needs to know the way the event needs to be marketed. He’s a soft ass little liberal snowflake. I’m a f**king bad ass motherf**king Republican. He’s like Hillary Clinton in a way. He’s crooked. That’s why we call him two-faced Tyrone. You can’t trust anything he says. I’m more like Trump. I’m grabbing all these p**sies, and I’m putting them in their place.”
Covington surprised the MMA world when he defeated Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225 for the interim title. He was reported to take on Woodley at 228 but Covington was couldn't make the quick turnaround to fight at UFC 228, so Till was slotted instead. With Till in Woodley’s rear view, Covington seems to be the sure contender for the welterweight title and the brash fighter has a warning for Woodley about trash talk.
“There’s some things,” Covington said.
“I got some ace of spades in my back pocket. If that dude, if he slips up with anything, he’s… I got real dirt on him. I know some real s**t. Some real storylines that would ruin his career, and ruin his life, really.”
