The former lightweight champion will get a chance to reclaim his spot as the best fighter in his division as Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov has been made official for an upcoming UFC event in the fall.

The UFC has officially announced that Conor McGregor will return to the Octagon after a nearly two-year hiatus to challenge Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight championship in the main event of UFC 229 on Oct. 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

This marks McGregor’s first UFC fight since Nov. 12, 2016, when he defeated Eddie Alvarez to capture lightweight gold and become a dual-division champion at 145 and a 155 pounds. He has been stripped of both belts since as he took time off from MMA competition.

This highly anticipated bout is a rivalry that been brewing for well over a year and the two will finally get to settle their differences inside the octagon.
