Could we actually get Anderson Silva vs. Conor McGregor?
While the callout from Kamaru Usman seemingly failed, the former UFC Middleweight Champion responded to McGregor’s “Greatest of All Time List”, as the 31-year-old named Silva as the No. 1 GOAT in MMA:
Of course, many have their opinions regarding who’s truly the best in the sport; however, there’s no denying the accomplishments made by the Brazilian. Silva managed to defend the UFC Middleweight title for a record-setting ten times, beating top tier names such as Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson, Forrest Griffin, Demian Maia, and Chael Sonnen.
The only fighter to reach or surpass this accomplishment is Demetrious Johnson, who successfully defended the UFC Flyweight Championship eleven times. Silva responded to the list and proposed a superfight between himself and McGregor, and the former lightweight champion has seemingly agreed to fighting the 45-year-old:
There’s no guarantee that the fight will indeed happen; however, the possibility of the match-up does look good as McGregor doesn’t seem to have any direction at the moment. With Khabib and Gaethje busy, that leaves Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal open; however, those bouts don’t seem likely right now either. We’ll find out soon whether these former champions will collide inside the octagon.
