Are we getting Alexander Volanovski vs. Max Holloway II very soon?
It appears that way, as the UFC President himself has stated that Volanovski’s first title defense will be against the former UFC Featherweight Champion (transcript courtesy of
BJPenn.com),
“Holloway (is next for Volkanovski),” White said on
TheSchmozone podcast.
“Very, very soon. We are working on that right now.”
Volanovski shocked the MMA community when he defeated the Hawaii native for the belt at UFC 245. Going into the contest, Holloway had a strong 14-fight winning streak when it comes to the featherweight division as the 28-year-old has defeated talents such as Jose Aldo, Frankie Edgar, Anthony Pettis, and Brian Ortega.
While Holloway did lose to Dustin Poirer at UFC 236, that fight was for the Interim UFC Lightweight Championship. For Volanovski, the UFC Featherweight champ is currently in the midst of an 18-fight winning streak. The Australia native hasn’t lost a bout since 2013, which was against Corey Nelson at Australian Fighting Championship 5.
We’ll keep you updated when the championship match is made official.
