Who will step up and fight Amanda Nunes next?
At UFC 250, the UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion successfully defended her belt in dominant fashion against Felicia Spencer. With Nunes scoring another lopsided win, many are questioning who could actually take on the two-division champion.
At the moment, there’s no woman in the bantamweight and featherweight division that appears to be a credible threat to the Brazilian, with UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko the only name that many believe is the only challenge for Nunes. The two-division champion has fought Miesha Tate, Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, and Cris Cyborg, but Shevchenko is the only fighter who came close to beating the two-division champion.
Many feel that Shevchenko vs. Amanda Nunes III should be the next fight for both competitors; however, Dana White shuts down the notion of that match-up happening anytime soon (Transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie):
“For the third time? And Amanda won twice? No,” White said.
The UFC President actually names another big opponent for Shevchenko, which is UFC Strawweight Champion Zhang Weili:
“I don’t think that’s the right fight for Valentina,” White said. “If you look at Amanda, she’s the queen of two divisions right now – ’35 and ’45 – and I think what you’d see before that is a couple more wins from (Zhang) Weili and that fight happening before you would see the Amanda fight again.”
