The rivalry continues.
It’s no secret that Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier hate each other. It’s hard to forget their personal rivalry back in 2014 where both men had several altercations and hurled insults left and right.
But there’s one moment where the rivalry went into overdrive. It was infamous segment where Jones though the cameras were still off and he asked Cormier, “Hey pu**y, are you still there?” It didn’t get any better from there. Long story short, their rivalry hasn’t been manufactured by the UFC. However, Cormier has always kept it respectful despite everything Jones has said about him. He’s never denied Jones’ talent and isn’t afraid to admit that he lost to the 38-year-old.
But Cormier has been adamant for years that Jon Jones is not in the conversation for one of the greatest of all time.
Why? Well, I’ll let Cormier explain it to you.
"I don't believe he (Jones) should be considered the greatest of all time," Cormier told Shannon Sharpe during an appearance on Club Shay Shay.
"Steroids in fighting is much different than anything else in the world," continued Cormier. "You just can't have that tied to your name, especially in fighting, and people call you the greatest of all time. He's the greatest talent the sport has ever seen."
"In terms of the best fighter of all time, I would never give (Jones) that because of that."
Now Cormier goes out of his way to highlight how talented Jones is as fighter. He even said during the interview that Jones is the most talented fighter that they’ve had in mixed martial arts. People will disagree, but Cormier never came across as jaded or bitter in his response. However, Jon Jones just couldn’t let Cormier get away with his statement.
Well, Jones clearly believes he deserves to be in that conversation. There are plenty of people who will always put an asterisk to his name and he should understand that. But whatever the case may be, opinions will always be divided when it comes to Jones and being one of the greats.
