Daniel Cormier has repeated numerous times that he has no desire to fight Jon Jones for a third time. But things change, especially when it comes to the bitter rivalry between these two fighters.
Following Jon Jones's impressive victory at UFC 232 in which he regained the light heavyweight title with a third-round TKO of Alexander Gustafsson, Cormier
took to Twitter and threw some shade at his longtime rival.
"I mean sh*t, he should win! Dude starts with a head start everyime #usadafake #jonnybrasco," Cormier said, accusing the current light heavyweight champ of cheating to win.
Jones tested positive for Turinabol, an anabolic steroid, in 2017 and was stripped of his lightweight heavyweight title that he won in the rematch against Cormier at UFC 214. He also served a 15-month suspension from the USADA and paid a $205,000 fine to the state of California.
Prior to his fight against Gustafsson, Jones found himself in the middle of yet another drug-testing controversy as one of his tests came back with an abnormality showing the presence of the same long-term M3 metabolite. While the Nevada State Athletic Commission denied Jones a license to compete in the state, USADA ruled that the amount found in Jones's system was consistent with "residual amounts" of the initial 2017 test.
Cormier's comment on Twitter came around the same time Jones gave his post-fight speech and called out his longtime rival.
"Daddy's home, DC," Jones said.
"Prove to the fans that you're the champ champ. I'm here. I'll be waiting."
Cormier, who
relinquished the light heavyweight title ahead of UFC 232, didn't directly respond to the callout but did have a response to commentator Dominick Cruz who spoke with Jon Anik and Joe Rogan about a potential third fight between the two greats.
It certainly sounds like Cormier is willing to step into the Octagon with Jones for a third time, but that he's not willing to fight if there's even a trace of any sort of banned substance in Jones's body. Do you want to see Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones fight for a third time?
