Unfortunately for Deiveson Figueiredo, he will no longer get the opportunity to fight for the vacant UFC Flyweight title this Saturday.
The flyweight came in 2.5 pounds over the 125-pound weight limit thus the 32-year-old is no longer eligible for the championship and will have to forfeit 30 percent of his fight purse. His opponent, Joseph Benavidez, can still win the UFC Flyweight title if he’s victorious on Saturday.
The UFC Flyweight Championship will be at stake Saturday for the first time since January 19, 2019. Originally, the belt was held by Henry Cejudo as the 33-year-old defeated Demetrious Johnson at UFC 227, ending a six-year title reign for the Kentucky native.
Cejudo ended up relinquishing the belt later on in the year and the championship fight between Figueiredo and Benavidez was made official. Check out the full card for the fight night event below:
