A big light-heavyweight bout is in the works for UFC 253 as Dominick Reyes could be facing Jan Blachowicz at the pay-per-view. With Jon Jones vacating the UFC Light Heavyweight title, there’s no word on whether this match-up will be for the vacant belt. Brett Okamoto of ESPN first reported the news.
Reyes is coming off a controversial loss to Jones at UFC 247. Prior to that crushing defeat, the light heavyweight was undefeated inside of the octagon with Reyes beating top names such as Ovince Saint Preux (via unanimous decision at UFC 229), Volkan Oezdemir (via split decision at UFC Fight Night 147), and former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman (via KO UFC on ESPN 6). His professional record currently stands at 12 wins and 1 loss.
Blachowicz is currently on a three-fight winning streak with his latest victory coming over former UFC star Corey Anderson at UFC Fight Night 167. The light heavyweight also has impressive wins over Luke Rockhold (via KO at UFC 239) and Ronaldo Souza (via split decision at UFC Fight Night 164). Blachowicz’s professional record currently stands at 26 wins and 8 losses.
UFC 253 takes place on Saturday, September 26 with Israel Adesanya vs. Paulo Costa for the UFC Middleweight title headlining the pay-per-view. The placement of the light heavyweight match-up is currently unknown.
