Donald Cerrone is stepping into the octagon for the third time in 2020 as the welterweight is set to take on Niko Price on September 19 at UFC 253 in Las Vegas. The match-up was first reported by ESPN.
Cerrone is in desperate need of a win as the 37-year-old has failed to beat Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, Conor McGregor, and most recently, Anthony Pettis. Cerrone does own one win in his last five fights, beating Al Iaquinta by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 151. Cerrone’s professional record currently stands at 23 wins and 12 losses.
Price is also coming off a loss as the welterweight was dropped by Vicente Luque at UFC 249. Price’s stats in his last five fights is a mixed bag as the 30-year-old has only won two bouts, beating Tim Means (via KO at UFC Fight Night 146) and James Vick (via KO at UFC Fight Night 161). His professional record currently stands at 14 wins, 4 losses, and 1 no contest.
The scheduled pay-per-view on Sept. 19 will be headlined by a middleweight title bout between champion Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa. The placement of the welterweight match is currently unknown.
