It’s now official: UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will face Brian Ortega at UFC 231 in December. TSN confirmed the initial report from MMAJunkie.
Holloway and Ortega were originally scheduled to fight in the co-main event of UFC 226 in July before a medical scare forced the champion out of the bout just days before the event. Holloway won the featherweight title back at UFC 212 in June 2017 against Jose Aldo and successful retained it in their rematch at UFC 218 in December 2017. This will be Holloway’s second title defense.
Ortega defeated featherweight contender Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 in March to earn his shot at the title. Despite a no contest back in 2014, Ortega has yet to lose a fight in the UFC. All of his fights thus far have ended on either a knockout or submission victory.
