There's been a lot of drama and speculation surrounding the hypothetical fight between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and UFC superstar Khabib Nurmagomedov. Khabib, Mayweather, and even UFC president Dana White have weighed in on the potential super fight.
Most recently, White told the media that if a fight were to happen between the two,
it would have to be in the Octagon. After all, that's only fair since UFC star Conor McGregor made the jump to boxing back in August 2017. Well speaking to TMZ Sports, Mayweather believes since he's the "A side," he gets to make the rules - and his rules are that Khabib has to come into the boxing ring.
“They came to me talking about the Khabib fight. Khabib called me out, I didn’t call Khabib out. They said it has to happen in the octagon and I said, ‘You just tell me where Khabib has made nine figures before in the octagon. If he hasn’t made nine figures, he’s not the A side. I’m the A side, so if you guys want the fight to happen, you must come my way. My way, my rules.”
Following his dominant win over Conor McGregor at UFC 229 in October, Nurmagomedov appeared in a video next to Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe and
called out the undefeated boxing great. Since then, both Mayweather and Khabib have traded barbs back-and-forth online.
Although Mayweather has previously expressed confidence in entering the Octagon, he seems to be using money as an excuse to stick to the boxing ring. But hey, when you're a perfect 50-0 and make the kind of money that Floyd Mayweather makes, you can call the shots.
“Has to [be boxing],” Mayweather added.
“My way, my rules. I’m Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather. Even if it don’t happen, I’m comfortable. I’ve got a great life. Houses all over L.A. I’m retired and I’m still living a great life.”
