UFC 319 has a new co-main event.
The co-main event for UFC 319 has officially been decided as former Bellator fighter Aaron Pico will go toe-to-toe against undefeated featherweight Lerone Murphy. The bout was confirmed at the recent UFC Fight Night show on Saturday.
Pico is a hot commodity for the UFC. The featherweight is currently on a three-fight winning streak coming from Bellator and PFL. The 27-year-old suffered a few setbacks early in his career, but he’s managed to win five fights out of his last six. Pico comes in with a professional record of 13 wins and 4 losses.
Murphy has been slowly rising through the ranks since his UFC debut in 2020. The featherweight is coming off back-to-back wins over veterans Edson Barboza, Dan Ige, and Josh Emmett. Murphy has gotten eight wins in his UFC career and currently ranks at number six in the featherweight division. Murphy’s professional record currently stands at 16 wins, 0 loss, and 1 draw.
This fight could be a gateway to fighting current Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski, who was very complimentary of Murphy during a recent interview.
Check out the updated card for UFC 319. There were rumors that Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje were co-main eventing the August pay-per-view, but that’s clearly not happening next month. Dricus du Plessis will defend the UFC Middleweight title against Khamzat Chimaev in the main event. This will be the second title defense for the 31-year-old as Plessis is coming off strong wins over Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya.
