Last night, former UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway proved why he was the 145-pound champion for three years by dominating his fight against Calvin Kattar. Following the bout, the UFC President strongly feels that Volkanovski can’t deny Holloway a third fight (transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie):
“Listen, he’s got this Ortega fight coming up,” White said. “I think for a guy like him to watch this fight tonight when he’s the No. 1 contender – and like I said to you guys tonight, a lot of people whom I respect thought Calvin Kattar was going to win this fight tonight – the way that he looked, Volkanovski can’t even deny Max deserves another shot.”
In the co-main event, Carlos Condit and Matt Brown fought a back-and-forth war that saw Condit win by unanimous decision. Even though the veteran is currently on a two-fight winning streak, Condit’s bout against Brown was his last fight contracted fight. The former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion stated during the media scrum that he doesn’t exactly know what he’s going to do next, though he never calls for a retirement throughout the interview.
In other major news, Khabib Nurmagomedov could end up making his return. Dana White met up with the UFC Lightweight Champion on Friday and the 32-year-old stated that he would be watching UFC 57 – which features Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler vs. Dan Hooker – and he’ll make his decision on whether he wants to step back into the octagon one more time:
