A huge middleweight bout has been added to UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Oleiniki as former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman will make his return to take on Omari Akhmedov.
Other than his draw against Marvin Vettori at UFC 219, Akhmedov has managed to beat Tim Boetsch (via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 146), Zak Cummings (via unanimous decision at UFC 242), and Ian Heinisch (via unanimous decision at UFC 245). The middleweight is in the midst of a five-fight winning streak and hasn’t lost a bout since 2016 against Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos. Akhmedov’s professional record currently stands at 20 wins, 4 losses, and 1 no contest.
The former UFC Middleweight Champion is in need of a win as Weidman has lost back-to-back bouts against Ronaldo Souza (via KO at UFC 230) and Dominick Reyes (via KO at UFC on ESPN 6). The 36-year-old does own a submission victory over Kelvin Gastelum; however, that’s the only bout that Weidman has won in his last five fights. The middleweight’s professional record currently stands at 14 wins and 5 losses.
UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Oleinik takes place on Saturday, August 8 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with the two heavyweights headlining.
