Internet sensation (villain?) Jake Paul continues to make waves in the boxing world and fresh off his stunning knockout of former MMA fighter Ben Askren, the former YouTube star has found his next opponent. According to sources, Paul will be face former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in his next boxing match.
The 24-year-old is 3-0 as a professional boxer with wins over fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib and professional basketball player Nate Robinson. Looking to silence the doubters, Paul agreed to box former MMA fighter and ONE Welterweight Champion Ben Askren. Paul scored a convicing first round TKO though not everyone was convinced with his preformance. Despite Askren's professional fight history, he's known more for his wrestling than boxing.
With Tyron Woodley, this is a whole different beast. This would undoubtedly be Paul's toughest fight to date. Although Woodley is also considered more of a wrestler, he was a very effective striker with some serious power behind his punches. Seven of Woodley's 19 wins in MMA came via knockout.
Unfortunately, father time caught up to Woodley. The 39-year-old, whose contract with the UFC has expired, is riding a four-fight losing streak with his most recent loss coming via submission by Vicente Luque. Woodley has also fought and lost to Colby Covington, Gilbert Burns, and current champion Kamaru Usman, some of the best fighters in the UFC welterweight division.
If the fight goes through, Jake Paul would undoubtedly enter the ring as a huge underdog to Woodley. With Woodley no longer in contention for UFC gold, perhaps he's chasing an easy payday against Jake Paul. Despite lasting only one round, Ben Askren reportedly walked away with a $500,000 purse.
