After being in the promotion for nearly 20 years, B.J. Penn has finally been released from the UFC.
The UFC Hall of famer will go down as one of the greatest fighters of all time as Penn is a former Lightweight and Welterweight Champion. Known as “The Prodigy”, Penn has been in some fantastic bouts against the likes of Diego Sanchez, Georges St-Pierre, Matt Hughes and Nick Diaz.
However, the Hawaii native has been on a downward spiral inside the ring since his win against Hughes at UFC 123, as the former Lightweight Champion would lose seven fights straight following his bout against Jon Fitch, which ended in a no contest.
Penn’s destruction wasn’t just inside the octagon, as the 40-year-old was involved in several bar brawls this past year. The UFC President told
Yahoo! Sports on Thursday that Penn will not be fighting in the organization after his latest incident back in late August.
Penn leaves the promotion with a record of 16 wins, 14 losses, and 2 no contest. As of this writing, the UFC Hall of famer has not addressed being let go by the promotion.
