For years, Dwayne Johnson was referred to as "The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment." Since his days in the WWE, he's gone on to become one of the most elecrifying stars in all of Hollywood. And while he may never have stepped foot inside the Octagon, "The Rock" is considered by many to be one of the baddest motherf---ers to walk this planet. So it's fitting that on Saturday, he will present the winner of the UFC 244 main event the "BMF" belt.
According to ESPN, Dwayne Johnson confirmed via an Instagram Live chat streamed by UFC president Dana White that
he's following up on his promise to show up at Madison Square Garden on Saturday to bestow the mythical belt on either Jorge Masvidal or Nate Diaz.
"This addition to the company and the brand and to the sport, this BMF belt, I think it's brilliant," Johnson said.
"It's so smart and it's just fun, man."
It was Jorge Masvidal, a South Florida native, who initially asked The Rock on social media if he could put the belt around him if he won. Johnson, who played football at the University of Miami and has become a major figure in the city, agreed to do so if he could fit it into his busy schedule. Well, not only will he be at Saturday's event, Johnson will also be at the UFC press conference on Friday. He promised an announcemt of
"something I wanted to tell the UFC fans and MMA community first."
Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz will cap what is an electrifying card. Other matchups on UFC 244 include Kelvin Gastelum vs Darren Till, Stephen Thompson vs Vicente Luque, Derrick Lews vs Blagoy Ivanov, and Kevin Lee vs Gregor Gillespie.
