UFC 315 has lost a great fight.

It’s just been confirmed by the UFC themselves that Gilbert Burns vs. Michael Morales will no longer take place at UFC 315. Instead, that welterweight bout will now headline UFC Vegas 106 on May 17.

Burns is coming in on a three-fight skid. Though he went the distance against Sean Brady, that bout seemed to confirm that Burns’ time as a top contender is slipping away. The 38-year-old’s last win was against a now retired Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287. Burns comes into the fight with a record of 22 wins and 8 losses. He’s currently No. 8 in the division rankings.

On the other hand, Morales is undefeated. Since making a strong impression on Dana White’s Contender series, the welterweight has been running through the 170-pound division in dominant fashion. Morales is coming off an incredible win over Neil Magny that resulted in him getting performance of the night honors. Morales’ record stands at 17 wins and 0 losses. He’s currently No. 12 in the division rankings.

At the moment, there’s no word on why the UFC opted to take Burns vs. Morales off the UFC 315 card. It’s been a strange journey for this fight as it was originally scheduled for UFC 314, but that bout was moved off that card for unknown reasons as wel. The new main event joins a loaded card that features Paul Craig, Tecia Pennington, Hyu Sung Park, and Luana Santos.

Meanwhile, it hasn't been confirmed which fight will take Morales/Burns place on the main card. It wouldn't be surprising if Jose Aldo vs. Aiemann Zahabi is bumed up from the preliminary card, though there's been no speculation on that fight moving up. Either way, UFC 315 is a loaded show even without the Burns fight.
