Greg Hardy has stepped up to fight Junior Dos Santos.
It was reported earlier in the week that the former UFC Heavyweight Champion was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury; however, it was expected for Alexander Volkov to remain on the card.
ESPN confirmed the former football player as Volkov’s new opponent, though the featherweight bout between Zabit Magomedsharipov and Calvin Kattar will now headline UFC Fight Night Moscow.
Hardy is just coming off his controversial fight against Ben Sosoli, which was overturned to a no contest due to an illegal inhaler usage by the 31-year-old. This will be Hardy’s fifth fight in 2019, with the heavyweight winning two of his bouts against Dmitry Smoliakov and Juan Adams. Hardy’s current record stands at 5 wins and 1 loss.
Alexander Volkov is also coming into the bout after a loss, as the heavyweight was defeated by Derrick Lewis in the third round via knockout at UFC 229. Prior to the loss, Volkov was on an impressive four-fight win streak in the promotion, defeating Fabrício Werdum, Roy Nelson, Stefan Struve, and Timothy Johnson. The Moscow native’s current mma record stands at 30 wins and 7 losses.
UFC Fight Night Moscow takes place on Saturday, November 9 from the CSKA Arena in Moscow, Russia with Zabit Magomedsharipov and Calvin Kattar headlining.
