In a fantastic flyweight bout at UFC 227, the historic reign of Demetrious Johnson came to an end. Arguably considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in MMA, he was defeated by Henry Cejudo via split decision for UFC flyweight title.
Johnson held the title for five years and ten months, which is the second longest UFC title reign. Cejudo avenged a first-round loss to Johnson two years ago.
“I came in, I was knocked out in the first round two years ago, and this time I came in and defeated the legend and now I’m the champion,” Cejudo said.
Despite the loss, Johnson was gracious after his first defeat since a 2011 loss to then-UFC bantamweight champ
Dominick Cruz.
“Nothing he landed rocked me, but he’s the champ now,” Johnson said. “I knew he was going to be tough knew he was going to bring his A-game.”
