The bout that’s going into the 2020 "Fight Wing" Hall of Fame has been uploaded.
For the Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 165, the two fighters had an all-time classic war for the prestigious belt. While many pegged for Jones to win the battle, Gustafsson walked into the contest hot as the Sweden native was on a six-fight winning streak, beating names such as Vladimir Matyushenko (via TKO at UFC 141), Thiago Silva (via unanimous decision at UFC on Fuel TV 2), and Maurício Rua (via unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 5).
Since beating Mauricio Rua for the 205-pound belt, Jones had successfully defended the title five times against top light heavyweights such as Quinton Jackson (via submission at UFC 135), Rashad Evans (via unanimous decision at UFC 145), Vitor Belfort (via submission at UFC 152), and Chael Sonnen (via TKO at UFC 159) before meeting Gustafsson in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on September 21, 2013.
The extremely close match-up was the first time that many believed that Jones could actually lose the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Check out the unforgettable contest below:
