On July 9, the UFC Light Heavyweight fight between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson will be inducted into the ‘Fight Wing’ of UFC’s Hall of Fame.
For the Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 165, the two fighters had an all-time classic war for the prestigious belt. While many pegged for Jones to win the battle, Gustafsson walked into the contest hot as the Sweden native was on a six-fight winning streak; Gustafsson bested the likes of Maurício Rua and Thiago Silva before facing Jones.
The contest would go a full 25-minutes with the champ retaining his belt via unanimous decision. Prior to the induction, the match-up was always considered one of the greatest light heavyweight bouts in the company’s history and now, Gustafsson vs. Jones joins Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar, Maurício Rua vs. Dan Henderson, and Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida into the fight wing of the UFC Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 9, at The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The event will be streamed live on UFC FIGHT PASS.
