Justin Gaethje Wants To Prove That He's The Superior Athlete At UFC 254

Justin Gaethje is looking to break Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254.

In less than two weeks, the UFC Interim Lightweight Champion will meet the undefeated fighter for his 155-pound belt in the main event and Gaethje spoke about his upcoming match-up during the UFC 254 virtual media day.

On Oct. 24, the 31-year-old is looking to do more than win the UFC Lightweight title, Gaethje wants to beat him by submission and prove that he’s the superior athlete (Transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting):

“I’m going to try to beat him into submission. I want him to quit. I want him to know I’m the superior athlete, the superior man. That’s the goal of this game,” Gaethje said.

Khabib enters the fight undefeated with 28 wins, which come over top tier fighters such as Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Edson Barboza; however, despite his accomplishments and perfect record, Gaethje remains highly confident in his abilities:

“My confidence is probably my biggest factor right now paired with the power that I possess paired with the coach that I have,” Gaethje said. “That’s a dangerous combination. And I don’t care if I win or lose at the end of the day. As long as I make my family happy, as long as I’m proud of my performance, then it doesn’t matter. That’s what makes me most dangerous. I don’t know if he’s fought somebody like that.”

UFC 254: Nurmagomedov vs. Gaethje is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2020 at UFC Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
