It appears that there will be a welterweight championship bout at UFC 235 in March.
However, the only guaranteed fighter for the belt is Kamaru Usman, who’s coming off a strong victory over Rafael dos Anjos. White hinted that Colby Covington could be Usman's opponent at the UFC event.
Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, told
MMAjunkie on Wednesday that Kamaru will fight Woodley at UFC 235 in March. “
We signed a contract. One hundred percent, Woodley is fighting Usman. Las Vegas. March 2.”
White responded to
MMAjunkie in a text message, saying
“That fight is happening or Usman vs. someone for the title.”
So where does that leave the actual Welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley?
Its no secret that White isn’t much of a fan of Woodley. The UFC president has often accused him of not wanting to fight and has soured on the former Strikeforce star’s past performances.
Woodley was targeted to fight at the now-cancelled UFC 233, but he hasn’t fully recovered from recent surgery after his win over Darren Till at UFC 228. White hasn’t outright said that he’ll strip Woodley of the title, but the UFC president gave an indication that he’ll do that if he doesn’t defend at UFC 235.
