Could we see Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry next?
While there are no talks regarding the match-up, Perry had no problem throwing insults at the Stockton native in an interview with Ariel Helwani of ESPN on Tuesday. Following his big win over Mickey Gall last weekend, the welterweight feels confident that he can beat the popular UFC star.
Perry states that he respects Diaz; however, he views him as a skinny, weak, little [frick], and believes that the 35-year-old doesn’t stand a chance against him:
“I think he’s a skinny, weak, little (expletive), like Mickey Gall,” Perry said. “I respect what he’s done in this sport. He plays the guard game, jiu-jitsu, and (expletive). He thinks he can box with (those) little weak-ass punches that he’s got – little salt and pepper punches. He doesn’t stand a chance to hit me hard enough.”
Perry describes his gameplan against Diaz, which sounds similar to Jorge Masvidal’s strategy against Diaz at UFC 244:
“I’d hit him on the feet (the) same way Jorge Masvidal did,” Perry said. “I’d play his guard. I’d get half guard (and) sit on top of him. It’d look exactly the same way the Mickey Gall did, to be honest with you. If you guys liked that fight, then yeah, you’ll probably like the Nate Diaz fight, too because he’s a little more durable. He’ll probably try to stand there and box back with me, but my power punches (are) just – I’d sit him down.”
Thus far, Diaz has yet to respond to Perry’s comments. The MMA veteran hasn’t fought since November last year and there hasn’t been any talks of the Stockton native gearing up to return to the octagon anytime soon.
