Former UFC champion and MMA great Anderson Silva is set to take on Israel Adesanya as the co-main event of UFC 234. While that match will prove entertaining, MMA fans have always been intrigued by the prospect of Silva fighting against Georges St.-Pierre or Jon Jones, two other MMA greats.
While neither of these fights ever came to fruition, Silva was asked who he believed would be the winner of a match between himself and Jon Jones if both fighters were at their peak.
"Jon Jones," Silva admitted.
"He's an excellent fighter. I consider him like a younger brother and I believe he is the evolution of this sport."
Jon Jones is the current UFC light heavyweight champion, winning the belt after defeating Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 in December. It was his first time back in the Octagon after serving a 15-month suspension for testing positive for turinabol.
Anderson Silva was once the face of the UFC middleweight division, having had one of the most dominant runs as a champion in UFC history. Silva was the middleweight champion for a record 2,457 days. During that time he had 10 title defenses and 16 consecutive wins.
Now 43-years old, age has apparently caught up to the MMA great who had lost his previous four fights before defeating Derek Brunson at UFC 2018 in February 2017 by unanimous decision.
