Apparently, issues are still lingering between Impact Wrestling and NWA.
During the NWA TV taping press conference, owner Billy Corgan stated that he was open to partnering with any other promotion except Impact Wrestling (transcript courtesy of fightful.com):
“We consider ourselves a free agent in the market. We're available to work with anyone from All Elite Wrestling to Championship Wrestling from Hollywood to Ring of Honor. The only prohibition is IMPACT. We won't do business with them. Of course, we'll do business with WWE. We feel like an early UFC or Bellator. We feel like we're in the market and can do whatever we want to do. We have the champions right here.Think back of when ECW guys would appear on Raw. I think people really want innovation in the space," said Corgan.
"I think our relationships with Ring of Honor, which extend to New Japan -- we have a great relationship with AAA. I think we could work with anybody at any time."
When Fightful contacted Impact’s reps, they were surprised over Corgan’s statement as officials were unaware of any issues between them and NWA. Corgan is no stranger to Impact as he was the President for the company back in 2016; however, in November 2016, he left the promotion due to not being paid on time and the backstabbing behind the scenes.
The case was eventually settled with Anthem paying Corgan back the money he loaned Impact, but the NWA President didn’t leave on good terms with the company. Corgan has talked about the
backstabbing that occurred in the past with management backstage, so it’s not too much of a surprise that he isn’t interested in working with Impact.
