Another UFC record was set on Saturday night in Abu Dhabi as Paul Craig submitted Gadzhimurad Antigulov in the first round of their light heavyweight match with a triangle choke.
Antigulov applied pressure early and got a quick takedown to begin the fight, but Craig, who has pulled off some impressive finishes from his back before, embraced the position. He attempted a guillotine choke first, but Antigulov escaped and began raining down punches. The submission specialist took some shots but ultimately locked in the triangle choke that forced Antigulov to tap at 2:06 in the first round.
It was Craig's third triangle submission which is a new UFC record. He also tied Jon Jones, Misha Cirkunov, Ovince Saint Preux, and Glover Teixeira for most submission wins in the light heavyweight division with five.
The win pushes Scotland's Craig to 13-4-1, while Antigulov falls to 20-7. Craig is now unbeaten in his past three matches, although it's his first win since September 2019. He had fought Maurício Rua to a draw at UFC Fight Night in November 2019. Antigulov has now dropped three straight fights after winning his first two since joining the UFC.
