Former UFC women's strawweight champion Rose Namajunes will return to the Octagon at UFC 249 in April. Her opponent will be none other than the women who captured the title from her, Jessica Andrade. The UFC confirmed the highly anticipated rematch will take place on April 18 at Braclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
It will be the first time Rose Namajunas steps foot in the Octagon since her crushing title loss to Jessica Andrade at UFC 237 in May of last year. Following her loss, in which
she was knocked out via a vicious slam, Rose
even contemplated retirement. But upon returning to Minnesota and visiting her old coach,
she found some new inspiration.
Jessica Andrade went on to lose the strawweight title to Zhang Weili in her first defense of the belt in August 2019. Andrade and Namajunas will now battle to determine who will get to face Weili for the next title shot.
UFC 249 will take place on April 18 in Brooklyn, New York. The pay-per-view will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.
