Before Darren Till makes his return to the octagon this Saturday, check out the 27-year-old's middleweight debut against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244.
Before Till made the transition to the 185-pound division, the Liverpool native was a rising prospect within the welterweight division by beating names such as Donald Cerrone (via TKO at UFC Fight Night 118) and Stephen Thompson (via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 130); however, Till made the decision to move up following his back-to-back losses to Tyron Woodley (via submission at UFC 228) and Jorge Masvidal (via KO at UFC Fight Night 147). Going into his fight against Gastelum, Till’s record was 17 wins, 2 losses, and 1 no contest.
Gastelum got the biggest win of career when he dropped former UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 122. The Ultimate Fighter 17 winner would compete for the UFC Interim Middleweight Championship at UFC 236; however, Gastelum failed to beat Adesanya at the pay-per-view. Gastelum’s record was 15 wins, 4 losses, and 1 no contest.
Coming in, both talents were looking for something to prove following their previous fights. For Till, he wanted to remind everyone why he was considered a future champion before his match-up against Woodley. For Gastelum, he wanted earn his way back into the top spot of the middleweight division with a statement win over Till.
