Another UFC gem has been uploaded.
This time, it’s Conor McGregor's first loss within the promotion, which was to Stockton native Nate Diaz.
At this time, McGregor was coming off his featherweight title win over Jose Aldo at UFC 194. Since joining the promotion in 2013, the Ireland native was undefeated within the company and quickly went up in the rankings by getting huge wins over Max Holloway (via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 26), Dustin Poirier (via TKO at UFC 178), and Chad Mendes (via TKO at UFC 189). Going in, McGregor’s record was 19 wins and 2 losses.
Diaz was coming off a win over Michael Johnson and the 35-year-old called out the then UFC Featherweight Champion in a memorable profanity laced promo. The Stockton native got his wish at UFC 196, but only because Rafael Dos Anjos was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury.
Despite the UFC Featherweight Champion being on a 16-fight winning streak, Diaz managed to pull off the huge upset in a spectacular back-and-forth contest that saw him beat “Notorious” via submission in the second round. Check out the first encounter between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz below:
