Geoff Neal is off the UFC Fight Night card on August 29.
The welterweight revealed on social media that he was dealing with a near life-or-death situation over the past week, thus he’ll be unable to fight Neil Magny at the upcoming show. His replacement has already been confirmed as former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler will step in.
Lawler is coming in on a three-fight losing streak as the veteran dropped bouts to Rafael dos Anjos (via unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 26), Ben Askren (via technical submission at UFC 235), and Colby Covington (via unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 5). The former UFC Welterweight Champion has only one victory in his last five fights, which is against Donald Cerrone at UFC 214. Lawler’s professional record currently stands at 28 wins, 14 losses, and 1 no contest.
Magny is coming off a win over Anthony Rocco Martin at UFC 250, with the welterweight also dropping Li Jingliang at UFC 248 for back-to-back victories. Despite his loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio, Magny’s wins over Carlos Condit (via unanimous decision at UFC 219) and then Craig White (via KO at UFC Fight Night 130) have kept him in the top 15 rankings. Magny’s professional record currently stands at 23 wins and 7 losses.
