A middleweight fight has been set for UFC 248, as former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker will take on Jared Cannonier at the pay-per-view event.

Whittaker is competing for the first time since dropping the UFC Middleweight title to Israel Adesanya at UFC 243. Prior to that fight, the Australia native went five years without losing inside the octagon, besting middleweights such as Yoel Romero, Uriah Hall, and Ronaldo Souza. Whittaker’s professional record stands at 20 wins and 5 losses.

Cannonier enters the bout on a three-fight winning streak, defeating David Branch, Anderson Silva and Jack Hermansson. The Texas native hasn’t lost a bout since his fight against Dominick Reyes in May 2018. Cannonier’s professional record stands at 13 wins and 4 losses.

UFC 248 takes place on Saturday, March 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time.
