UFC has uploaded a fight with one of the most outspoken characters in the company’s history, Nate Diaz. The California native has never been afraid to speak his mind and has continuously proven to be a warrior inside of the octagon.
The 35-year-old went into the UFC on Fox 17 show looking to rebound from his loss against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on Fox 13. Diaz wasn't on a hot streak in his career as this point, with the fighter only winning one out of his last four fights. Diaz got a nice TKO victory over Gray Maynard at the season 18 Ultimate Fighter Finale; however, he dropped bouts to Benson Henderson (via unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 5) and Josh Thomson (via TKO at UFC on Fox 7).
Michael Johnson was also coming off a big loss to Beneil Dariush via split decision. The 33-year-old had a bit more momentum on his side as he’s won three out of his last four fights at this point in his career, besting Gleison Tibau (via KO at UFC 168), Melvin Guillard (via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 37), and Edson Barboza (via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 61).
This was a thrilling three-round fight that saw Diaz edge out the victory over Johnson via unanimous decision; however, what made UFC Fight Night Orlando truly unforgettable was Diaz’s call out to Conor McGregor. This rest is history as McGregor and Diaz would go on to have two incredible bouts later that year.
