UFC 321 was not a good night for Tom Aspinall.

Though he walked out as the UFC Heavyweight Champion, there’s some asterisk as to whether he would’ve had the fight continued. The main event of UFC 321 was ruled a no contest once Ciryl Gane accidentally poked Tom Aspinall in the eye.

Before the poke, Aspinall was surprisingly at being bested by Gane. It wasn’t a dominant performance as Tom came out strong in the beginning, but Gane was able to eat a couple of his punches and hit some nasty strikes of his own. The World Heavyweight Challenger had more strikes that Aspinall coming out of the first round, and Aspinall was the only one bleeding once the bell rang.

Despite this ending in a no contest, Dana White has ensured that a rematch will take place soon.

However, the biggest news to come out of UFC 321 was Mackenzie Dern destroying Virna Jandiroba to win the vacant UFC Strawweight title. Dern was sharp on her feet and on the ground, though Jandiroba took the fight to the ground in the second round and left a mark after some hammering fists against the fence.

Jandiroba was able to land numerous takedowns, but Dern fought from her back masterfully. Dern easily won the striking game and the judges gave her the win via unanimous decision.
